Multiversum Schwechat - Dallmeier video technology in the “Hall for All“
From cultural functions to sporting events right up to trade shows and exhibits: The Multiversum in the Austrian city of Schwechat offers guests a varied programme. When it comes to providing high-quality HD TV broadcasts and securing the interior and exterior of the multi-purpose hall Dallmeier video technology is used.
The Multiversum in the Austrian city of Schwechat, officially opened in January 2011, is a unique multi-functional venue. It hosts concerts and readings as well as sports events, trade shows, exhibits and business functions. The basic concept of the Multiversum is a triple sports hall. Owing to its state-of-the-art infrastructure and its flexible floor plan even the most extraordinary event ideas can be realized. Event organizers are offered a complete service package for their events, including all work from planning to implementation. The high-value technical systems the Multiversum offers include internet TV, broadcasts in HD quality and “Plug & Play”, which is particularly important to TV stations.
Multi-functional – featuring latest technology and equipment
A competent partner was needed for the design and implementation of a comprehensive infrastructure that would keep up with the state-of-the-art event technology. Kapsch BusinessCom, a leading ICT service partner, was up to the job. The comprehensive solution provided by Kapsch includes video surveillance, access control, IT network and server systems – everything from one source. The products for the video surveillance system come from Regensburg-based company Dallmeier.
“First, the necessary structured cabling was installed in order to prepare the Multiversum for a complete Dallmeier CCTV/IP system with 27 camera and recording functions, some of them in HD quality”, says Bernhard Litschauer, Project Engineer with Kapsch.
The system monitors the entire exterior of the event complex as well as the entrance and the hallways inside. The video system is furthermore used in a very special area. The second floor of the Multiversum accommodates the so-called “MultiTraining”, a training area equipped with the latest gym machines, where amateurs as well as top athletes exercise. Unfortunately, every now and then, a sporting accident occurs, for instance because somebody overestimated their abilities and exercised with too much weight. Using the video recordings it is now possible to see exactly what happened.
Video technology as an information tool
Apart from these classic surveillance tasks the video system at the Multiversum serves another purpose: The hall, where sports events or concerts take place, is monitored with the full HD cameras. Their video signals can also be used for TV broadcasts. The Dallmeier system is thus not only a security system but also a PR and information tool. The live streams from the cameras go directly into the digital signage system and are shown on monitors in the halls’ VIP area, together with current scores and commercials. Norbert Prantner, the head of technical operations at the Multiversum, is excited: “With the new features such as TV broadcasts in HD we meet and, indeed, exceed the requirements of all kinds of events. The image quality is outstanding.”
Hybrid – from analogue to full HD
Depending on the area of application the Multiversum uses different Dallmeier products: analogue dome cameras for exterior surveillance and high-resolution full HD PTZ cameras for monitoring the hall. “In some cases the cabling distances were very long, so we chose to use a hybrid solution. That way we were able to use analogue cameras with two-wire cabling for long distances and still use full HD network cameras in the same system”, Bernhard Litschauer explains.
The image data are recorded on two DMS 240 “In Memory of Leonardo“ recorders. These are digital video recorders that are specifically characterised by their hybrid functionality, which means that analogue as well as IP cameras can be recorded on the same device.
The video system is controlled using the PView7 management software which provides various display possibilities for live images and comprehensive search functions within the recordings.
Completely satisfied
The Multiversum is highly satisfied with the solution provided by Kapsch and the Dallmeier technology. Bernhard Litschauer is also delighted: “The cooperation with our distributor erdkreis, who we order the products from, as well as with the manufacturer Dallmeier is smooth. That enables us to offer our end customer a high-value complete solution.”
