Quality and trust: Dallmeier’s “Secure by Design” approach

For Dallmeier, “Made in Germany” is a promise of security – and it begins as early as the product development stage. CEO Thomas Dallmeier explains why the company consistently focuses on quality and trust.

Other providers compete with low prices. What sets Dallmeier apart?
Price isn’t everything. When it comes to security-critical products, a seemingly low purchase price can become very expensive — for instance, if data is unknowingly transferred abroad or hidden backdoors are built into the system. These incidents are well known. Our customers — from airports and stadiums to industrial sites — understand this: With Dallmeier, they have full control over both hardware and software.

What exactly do you mean by “full control”?
We develop and manufacture all core components ourselves — from the camera and recording software to intelligent video analytics. Around 50 % of our development resources are dedicated solely to security aspects. In other words: we make security technology secure — keyword cybersecurity and “secure by design.” That’s the only way we can guarantee that our products are free from manipulation.

What does a true “secure by design” approach look like in practice?
At Dallmeier, a true “secure by design” approach starts right at the product development stage. Thanks to our in-house software development and manufacturing in Germany, we ensure complete supply chain transparency and minimize the risk of hidden backdoors. On the technical side, we rely on multiple layers of protection: secure data transmission, strict authorization management, hardened operating systems, and integrated security mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access. Regular updates and penetration testing round off the concept — ensuring that our customers benefit from maximum security with minimal administrative effort.

Are data protection regulations more of a challenge or an opportunity for developing security technology?
Both — but above all, they’re an opportunity. Regulations like the GDPR undoubtedly come with technical and organizational challenges. At the same time, they drive transparency, quality, and accountability. Those who view data protection not as a hurdle, but as an integral part of their system architecture, build trust — especially among government agencies, critical infrastructure operators, or internationally active enterprises. In the end, compliance is not a burden — it’s a strength that fosters trust and differentiation.
